Butterfly Glue
My idea of a perfect glue is one that never dries while in it’s container, but dries almost instantly when exposed to air. To be perfect it also must be non-toxic, and 100% water resistant. Nor should it be subject to mould growth or attractive as a food source for ants and other insects. It also needs to stick to any surface including waxy surfaces and not deteriorate in sunlight.
Some carefully crafted glues I have used come close to this in some areas, but I have never found a glue on the shop shelves that meet all these specifications.
Does such a perfect glue exist? Man made, maybe not, but in nature just such a glue is not uncommon. The butterfly is one such creature that has the ability to manufacture and apply Butterfly Glue to stick it’s eggs on to waxy leaf surfaces that are subjected to all sorts of extreme weather conditions and those eggs stay stuck. Whats more, the glue is completely non-toxic to the caterpillar both in the egg and when it hatches out and eats the egg shell. Even more amazing is that the egg shell is soft and pliable when glued but hardens within 24 hours with no negative effect on the adhesion of the glue.
Even with two hands and ten fingers, I still have problems with applying the glue to the right place and in the right quantity, especially on very small things. Amazingly the mother butterfly is able to apply just the right amount of glue to one side of the egg as it leaves the end of her abdomen and she does not use any feet to do this. Everything is perfectly designed to apply the glue in the right place at the right moment.
One more problem I have had with glues is that the point at which the glue leaves the container tends to get clogged up by the glue and even completely seal over. Amazingly the butterfly has no such problem with Butterfly Glue.
Where did the butterfly get the knowledge to manufacture Butterfly Glue, and the dispensing apparatus. Some say it learned by accident, but the Bible says God created the Butterfly with the ability to manufacture the perfect glue and dispense it in the right place a the the right time and do it over and over again with out ever experiencing a clogging problem.
The butterfly glue helps the egg to hold fast to the leaf. In the Bible in the book of Joshua, it says that we should ‘hold fast to God’. He is our designer and creator, stick with Him and things will go well for you. (Joshua 22:5)
